"Expatriate writer Robert Lord, domiciled in New York, has a fine homecoming (to New Zealand) with his black comic farce.... COUNTRY COPS is set in a police station in small-town New Zealand. Jasper Sharp is sent from the city to solve a murder which the two local constables Bert and Trev have pigeon-holed because of more pressing matters. In Trev's case, it's the outcome of an amorous dalliance with Bert's wife Lynette after a riverside drive one evening. Enter prime suspects Wally, the local idiot, and Adam, the local magnate [both played by the same actor], and Hortensia, amateur writer and tragedienne [played by the same actress that plays Lynette], and the plot power drives to a zestful finale..."
