Elizabeth Swados is one of the most significant people writing for the contemporary musical theater. Not only has she composed music for shows on Broadway and at our major regional theaters, but for many film and television productions as well. She describes this work as follows:

"JERUSALEM is a musical journey through a timeless city filled with passions and sounds that can be found wherever people fight to survive. Through original chanting folk-song chorus, and instrumental atmosphere, a whole world is created which celebrates the incredible spirit of each human being who believes fervently. JERUSALEM, however, is also humorous and cautionary in that it creates a fitting memorial to those who have suffered the wanderings of refugees and the piece speaks out on behalf of all those who are persecuted for their beliefs. It also provides a humorous series of vignettes which comment on all people who take their opinions so seriously they can't see what's in front of them. This oratorio-theater piece has been recreated so that singers can master an adventure into the multilingual journey which is the wonder of Jerusalem."
