BROADWAY PLAY PUBLISHING INC
Professional Stage Production Rights
Our definition of professional is simply whether the production is being done under any sort of Actors Equity Association contract. In no way is this meant to be a judgment about the quality of the work that a theater does.
As always, productions planned in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York have to be cleared with the author and primary agent. If you are proposing a production in one of these cities, please e-mail as much information as you have (eg: venue, performance dates, any cast and/or creatives that are known, producer's production history).
Producers may calculate the guaranteed royalty, make the advance payment, and request a license by providing us with the following:
the name of your producing
organization
your full name & contact
information
the title of the play
the seating capacity, average ticket
price, & number of performances
the opening & closing dates
For ANCESTRAL VOICES, SCREEN PLAY, & UNDERNEATH THE LINTEL: multiply seating capacity x average ticket price x number of performances x 4% and round up to the nearest $10. This is the guarantee against 12% of the box office gross.
For all plays of the ...(abridged) plays, and all plays by A R Gurney, Tony Kushner, and Neil LaBute: multiply seating capacity x average ticket price x number of performances x 3% and round up to the nearest $10. This is the guarantee against 10% of the box office gross.
All other plays: multiply seating capacity x average ticket price x number of performances x 2% and round up to the nearest $10. This is the guarantee against 8% of the box office gross.
Example: 499 (seats) x $15 (average ticket price of) x 16 (performances) x 2% = $2395.20, rounded up to nearest $10 = $2400.
The minimum guarantee is $50 per performance.
In Canada: use the Canadian dollar amount of your average ticket price to calculate royalty, then convert the total into U S dollars and round up to the nearest $10. Payment must be made in the form of a check drawn from a U S bank, a money order in U S dollars, or by credit card.
Please mail the above-requested information, along with your check, to Broadway Play Publishing Inc, 224 E 62, NY NY 10065-8201. Licenses are generally mailed out within one business day of receipt of the check. If you provide an e-mail address, we will e-mail the license.
Box office statements must be reported weekly, no later than three days after the end of each week.
